Indian state-owned power producer NTPC has commissioned the second 660MW unit of the NTPC-Sipat super thermal power project in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh.
The total installed capacity of the Sipat project has increased to 2,320MW and NTPC's total installed capacity has now increased to 36,014MW.
The NTPC-Sipat power project has two stages with ultimate installed capacity of 2,980MW.
Stage -1 consists of three 660MW super critical technology based units and Stage- II consists of two 500MW units based on traditional coal-fired technology.
The first 660MW super critical unit has already commenced its commercial operations from 1 October 2011, whereas Stage 2 of 1,000MW capacity is fully operational.
Presently, NTPC has 15 coal based, seven gas based and six joint venture power stations and plans to be 128,000MW power company by 2032.
